COURSES - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are your refund and cancellation policies? Read them here.

How do I edit my first solo act as a beginner? There are several ways to start your burlesque adventure. We strongly encourage you to take the Class B course which requires you to have already taken classes at Arabesque Burlesque. Because burlesque is an art form in itself, even a dance or theater training will require you to start at the level of a beginner progressive class and continue with a group choreography class on stage (Show Ponies) before taking Class B. Putting together your burlesque solo with us is therefore a commitment of 3 sessions of 10 weeks at Arabesque.

If you can't make it to the studio, you can sign up for our on-demand channel to get access to over 60 different classes that will help you discover your burlesque style and practice your dance moves that will help you create your own solo. If you'd like more specialized guidance on costumes, act creation, and choreography, you can choose the videos you need from our Specialty Skills channel.

You can also do your solo with a burlesque coach. With this kind of format, you can do your solo in half the time of a group class.

And finally, you can take the step on your own! It's a wonderful world in which you don't have to have our training. Besides, you're already a star:)

The price of the course prevents me from registering. What can we do? Subsidized spaces for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) and Trans people. If the price of a course prevents you from contacting us, send us an email! We always offer 50% off classes for people who identify as BIPOC and/or Trans who want this rate. We offer a free sponsored spot to an Indigenous student each semester. Please email us at info@arabesqueburlesque.com if you are interested. We have a trainee program (it's a one-year commitment) that you can learn more about here.

I would like to register for a drop-in course. Do I need to register in advance? No! We have a limited capacity in the studio. We therefore prefer a payment to reserve your place in advance but you can also register when you arrive at the studio. You can register online up to 1 hour before the start of the course. We only accept credit card payments.

I have signed up for an à la carte course and I cannot attend. What is the cancellation policy? If you have registered for an à la carte class, you have up to 2 hours before the start of the course to cancel or change your reservation. After that, you have to pay for the course, even if you can't show up. When you cancel your course registration, please contact us via email to use your credit for a new enrollment in a pay-as-you-go course.

I have purchased a flexible course package - what should I do? After purchasing a 3 or 10 class package (or an unlimited pass), you must still register for the class on the dates you want to attend. To register, open the email sent by Acuity confirming your purchase of the course package. In this email you will see "package code" you can use it to register with the courses you have paid for.

What kind of clothing should I wear to my class? For the à la carte classes, we suggest that you wear the same outfit as for any other movement class. We teach these barefoot classes and most of our students take the barefoot classes as well. You can also wear dance shoes (jazz, ballet or swing) or indoor sneakers. For our 10-week classes, many students will wear the same clothes or even fishnet socks or lingerie! If your class requires heels or other dance shoes, your teacher will let you know in advance and you will be notified by email.

What is the difference between an à la carte course and a 10-week course? For our 10-week courses, you must register in advance for the duration of the full session (winter, spring or fall). Our à la carte courses are much more flexible. You can sign up for one class, two classes, or every week. In addition, the content of our progressive classes is more focused on the naughty, choreographic, character and sensual energy of burlesque. A la carte classes are classes based on movement and training inspired by sexy attitude and fun.

How do I participate in the drop-in courses? Check the course info regularly for all the information. Details on prices and registration are here.

The progressive course I want to take is full/has already started. How can I participate? Before each session, we have a registration period for our progressive courses. Registration closes for each class when it is full or after the first class. Some of our courses are very popular and fill up quickly, so unfortunately you may have to wait until our next session to take this particular course.

Where are the courses given? All classes are given at our Studio #204 which is located at 7100 St-Hubert Street (second floor). A few steps from the Jean-Talon metro station!

Are the courses in French or English? It depends! In the schedule it is noted either FR or ENG, and when you make a reservation in Acuity you will see that either FR or ENG will be noted in the title of each course.

Are men and other genders welcome at your classes? We teach men, women, and everyone outside of the gender binary. Burlesque can be adopted by all genres.

Who are the courses for? Whatever your age, gender or body type, you are welcome to join one of our courses. We have students from 16 to 75 years old of all shapes and sizes. Experience and physical ability requirements vary by course. Please see the course descriptions for more details.

Who teaches the courses? Our classes are all taught by burlesque artists who perform regularly in Montreal. Get to know them here.

When do your courses take place? We have three sessions each year; Winter, spring and autumn. The winter session takes place during the months of January, February and March, the spring session during the months of April, May and June and the autumn session during the months of September, October and November. We do not offer classes in August, but offer an intensive camp earlier in the summer.
