10-WEEK CLASSES
These classes start September 15th!
All LEVEL 1 classes are BOTH In Studio and Online (using Zoom). The other progressive classes are only offered in the studio.
All of the classes below are taught in either English or are bilingual (French/English). For more details on our classes taught in French, visit here.
Included in the cost of 10-week classes: On top of the 10 weeks of 90-120min classes, you get: an instructional video made by the academy that explores a special skill specific to your class AND inspirations, resources, and optional homework shared in a private Facebook group. For Class B (our signature act creation class) and Identité Burlesque, we also include 1 or 2 private 1-on-1 sessions and access to our small studio for rehearsals and creativity during the session.
Level 1: Flexibility For Burlesque (Eng/Fr)
A weekly opportunity to increase mobility and learn movements that highlight flexibility for a range of bodies. This class has a series of stretches that can help you achieve your splits, back bends, leg extensions, and bend-overs. We use our standing vocabulary to dance through a combination and have the option to wear heels/shoes for part of the lesson. This class focuses on movement accessibility through modifications and explanations throughout.
The Flexibility class does NOT count as a pre-requisite for level 2 classes.
No experience necessary! You need to be ready to move your body and discover your sensuality. You also need to be able to get up stairs to access the studio.

Level 1: Burlesque for Beginners (Eng)
This class is made for those wanting to try the art of burlesque in a fun and supportive environment. We start with the basics of burlesque movement (bump-n-grind, shimmies, and walking in heels). You will then follow your teacher through choreographies in different burlesque styles (cabaret, rockn’roll, 1920s, pin-up, and contemporary sensual) and learn to reproduce the fundamentals of tassel twirling, facial expressions, and chair dance. We incorporate the basics of burlesque tease into our vocabulary by playing with 5 different costume pieces (provided by the academy). At the end, students will invent their own burlesque combo using their preferred style (pinup, seductress, diva) and present this to the class in small groups.

Level 1 - Connecting to the Magic Within
Are you looking to deepen your connection to yourself? Heal the body/soul/mind connection? Do you want to work on your burlesque character while also working on your confidence? Open to all creatives with a focus on burlesque, this class involves themed reflections inspired by major arcana tarot cards, somatic grounding techniques, playful prop work to explore different characters, and a chance to make connections and realizations that will last.

Level 2: Burlesque & Costume (Fr)
** This class is mainly in French
A course that explores burlesque performance through the manipulation of costume props and stage movements. You will create a burlesque number based on songs that have been chosen by your teacher. Your burlesque solo will be created with costumes provided by Arabesque Burlesque, but you will have the opportunity to make one or two costume pieces yourself! In class, you will receive personalized, constructive feedback from your professor and peers. Ending in an intimate student show that takes place in our studios, it's the perfect way to get a first introduction to the world of performing without too much pressure.
Pre-requisites: This is a Level 2 beginner class. You need to have completed at least one beginner level class at Arabesque.
Level 2: Burlesque Floorwork (Eng)
Join Gigi for a 10-week exploration of beginner-level floorwork! Learn to get down and dirty on the floor and back up on your feet again with style and grace, while using various burlesque props. This progressive course ends with a performance at the student showcase. Open to modifications for all body/mobility types.
Pre-requisites: This is a Level 2 beginner class. You need to have completed at least one beginner level class at Arabesque.
Level 2 - Burlesque Chair Dance
An introductory chair dance class for those who've already learned the basic building blocks of burlesque. Coming to you from a veteran burlesque dancer who's totally obsessed with her chair – this class will get you familiar with the more accessible movements we can do with this prop. We'll work on chair dance styles, moves, and transitions. Our dance styles will include cabaret, pop siren, and sultry vixen.
Pre-requisites: This is a Level 2 beginner class. You need to have completed at least one beginner level class at Arabesque.
Level 2 - Show Ponies (Fr)
** Class mainly in French
A burlesque movement class that explores dance and performance. A class to create sensual choreographies and work on your stage presence while improving your choreographic vocabulary. Each class includes a warm-up and work on a group choreography, which will conclude with a performance at the students' show.
Pre-requisites: This is a Level 2 beginner class. You need to have completed at least one beginner level class at Arabesque.
Level 3: Burlesque Chair Dance (Eng)
Ready to fall in love with chair dancing and get stronger while doing it? Coming to you from a veteran burlesque dancer who's totally obsessed with her chair – this class will get you super familiar with the more advanced sensual movements we can do on a chair. Plus, we'll give you routines that build the muscles and flexibility those moves require. We'll integrate striptease elements into our chair poses and movements. By the end of the class, you'll have all the moves you need to start making your own burlesque chair dances, and you'll perform a group act in the student showcase!
Each class starts with team building, then a dance-workout and stretching (on the chair), plus choreography and breaking down moves. The costume for this group act will be partially paid for by the school, and an extra $15-$50 per student may be required.
Pre-requisites: Have completed a level 1 AND level 2 class at Arabesque OR a level 1 class and 3+ years of dance experience.
Level 3: Advanced Floorwork (Eng)
"Filthy advanced floorwork," where slinky sensuality intertwines with silky smooth, well, filthy floorwork. Explore the primal connection between your body and the ground, embracing the uninhibited essence of your sexuality. Discover slinky rolls and seductive balances as you master a range of advanced moves designed to push your boundaries and ignite your passion.
Pre-requisites: This is a Level 3 class. You need to have completed at least 1 level 1 class and 1 level 2 class to register.
LEVEL 4 - Burlesque Identity (Fr)
**Class in French
Want to further develop your burlesque alter ego? In this class, we'll delve into your personal world to find out who you become on stage. Discovering your burlesque identity means deconstructing our social filters and bringing our emotions and hidden dimensions into play by bringing a character to life.
Pre-requisites: This is a Level 3 class. You need to have completed at least 1 level 1 class and 2 level 2 class to register.
Level 4: Class B (Fr/Eng)
In this 10-week course, we'll build your knowledge of the art of burlesque from the ground up. The session starts with neo-burlesque theory and ends with the guided construction of a solo burlesque act. Students are expected to complete weekly homework assignments and will have the chance to perform their act in the school showcase at the end of the session. Homework assigned, 5 student maximum.

Teaser class (Fr/Eng)
This is a 3-week mini-series for beginners. In the first week, we'll practice moves steeped in burlesque history and see how key costume pieces complement them. In the second week, we'll learn how to tease with the iconic satin glove, and in the third week, we'll discover the basics of the feather fan dance (yay!)
Burly in Heels (Fr/Eng)
A three-part course to introduce you to the art of burlesque choreography... in high heels! Each session begins with a targeted warm-up to strengthen your ease and elegance in heels, followed by progressively learning a classic, sensual, and stylish burlesque choreography. A 3-week course to gain confidence, technique, and stage presence - heel after heel.
